I think the word is getting out that sinking huge amounts of public funds
into sports venues just doesn't pay off in the long run. Cities are wising up to the folly of hosting the Olympics, and extravagant NFL stadiums don't seem to pay off either.
There are certainly benefits to hosting major athletic events and franchises, but is it really worth billions to the local economy? Probably not.
